you're using hersey fonts for the numbers right? have you thought about firing up metafont and creating a low-res rasterization for the italic numerals from computer modern?

yeah, I'm using Hershey fonts right now. I hadn't thought of using the italic CM fonts... but that idea has me all hot and bothered.
