According to wikipedia, this word does not appear in most modern dictionaries, but appears in Nathaniel Bailey's Universal Etymological English Dictionary.

The fact that a friend from high school that I never see just burned me a cd of a newish NY musical involving puppets called Avenue Q, and last week I finally finished listening to it, and there's a song about schadenfreude that the Gary Coleman character sings.
